I've really enjoyed the TOTs runs on Sunday mornings lately. My friend Stormy Phillips has led this group, and his enthusiasm and encouraging have helped me so I know he has helped other folks, and the numbers in our group bear that out.
Brian aka Head TATUR has FaceBooked and email-blitzed the runs, and the group often has 60 runners out, and usually more than 30 even on the nasty weather days.
This past Sunday, Dana came out, and our friend Sandra along with Pat formed their own group and gave the Snake Trail a good working over.
The group I lead, which has a different name each week, was The Superstars this week. We had 10 runners, and depsite having ran 31.5 miles the day before, I seemingly had fresh legs and ran like a machine. (By my standards anyway.)Ashley, Emily, Teresa, and Jen wait for a few of our group to catch up, while I gasp for air. We mostly stayed on easier trails ourselves, and after getting 4 miles, most headed back to the parking lot. Teresa and I headed out for another mile and a half. I rounded out my day with five more miles, giving me a nice round 10.8 miles for the day, and 42.3 for the weekend.
Next Sunday, the TOTs will make a trail trip. (I just can't make myself call it a road trip, although we will drive on roads quite a way to get to the trails we'll run.) The plan is to meet early--maybe 7:00 am at Turkey Mountain, and then carpool and caravan to Osage Hills State Park between Bartlesville and Pawhuska on HW 60. It is a solid hour, maybe a bit more if we make a pee/coffee stop at QT (plan on it.) Check your email, FaceBook, and/or the TATUR website for more details. My plan is to run the trails in the park (around 6 miles with some bail out points), and then hit the mountain bike trails which are another 6 miles +/-. There are maps available for both trail systems in the park office. Check the links below. The first one is the link to the park itself, the next two maps of the park area and trails, and the last three are blog posts from some of my trips up there.
